Perseverance

I've never won an award or been the best at something. I've always remained among the crowd of unacheivers and always been reminded through trial and error that I am a failure. When you are a failure you stop making multiple goals and you just make one: do something for yourself. Stop trying to impress other people who don't truly matter to you. Do something without a goal or achievement or any kind of recognition and just do something that makes you feel good. The only approval you need is your own and without that, you've lost you're existence.

I know a lot of kids stressed out about school because there parents force them so harshly to do well that it has had a negative effect on their sanity. They over estimate their power and wear themselves out. Or they over multitask and then forget about a test they had and just like that they resent themselves and are angry. I'd prefer to be happy than smart. I may be dumb but at least I'm content.

I still don't know what I want to do for myself. I have no idea what my future is because I am not there yet. I don't have a goal except that one day I will do the most meaningful thing but it wont mean a thing to anyone but me. Because when you fail so much failing doesn't hurt as much, succeeding just feels better.

How many handshakes?

  1. 45
  2. 55
  3. 190

Je voudrais aller Paris, France.

If I could go anywhere in the world I would want to go to Paris. I dream of walking through the Louvre and experiencing the beautiful works of art. I'd want to see how the culture differs from America and observe their behaviors. I might want to live in Paris for a while when I'm older to study art. From pictures I've seen, Paris looks so beautiful and elegant yet still fun and creative. But of course I would go to the top of the eiffel tower to get a good view of the city of love.

My favorite designers such as Coco Chanel and Christian Dior are from france and I'd like to maybe visit their stores just to marvel at their beautiful designs. I adore the feminism Chanel incorporates. But Dior has a certain elegance and uniqueness that I love so much. I aspire to be as successful and creative as them and dream of seeing their boutiques for myself.

It's every artists dream but I'd also kill to taste the french cuisine. France is famous for its fromage and wine pairings due to the mixture of flavor. Though lamb would be the last thing I'd eat.

Bucket List

  1. travel the world- I would like to spend most of my life exploring the world. I want to travel to third-world countries and do charity work for children there. Also I want to experience the vast cultures from around the world and experience other societies. And of course I'd like to visit the Louvre in Paris and the Vatican in Rome to see the great works of Michelangelo and Van Gogh.
  2. design a fashion line- I'm very artistic and love fashion so I would like to design and create my very own fashion line.
  3. have children- I want to experience motherhood and watch my children grow up. I'd even like to adopt to provide a child love and care. To be a parent will be the highlight of my life.
  4. read the entire Harry Potter series- I've read the entire Hunger Games series and fell in love. Everyone is obsessed with Harry Potter so I figure I might as well read and see if its worth all the praise.
  5. learn how to play guitar- I got a guitar for Christmas but before I could play it the strings broke and I never replaced them. I love music and would like to be able to produce some if I can fix my guitar and get some lessons.

Being Charitable

Unicef is an incredible organization that focuses on the children of the world. They offer emergency relief, futures to children, and the basic needs they are not already receiving. They work in Iraq, Syria, South Sudan, The Philippines and the Central African Republic. They have ambassadors such as Tyson Chandler and Selena Gomez and are supported by other celebrities who advertise the cause and encourage their fans to get involved.

I chose Unicef because I believe it is a cause dedicated to the worlds youth. I love children and find it heartbreaking that they are unable to live their lives fully due to poor living conditions, disease, violence, and neglect. Children are our future, they will inhabit the earth and be in control when they are older. We should invest in our future wisely by investing in the children of our world.

The fact that their are children in Africa and other third-world countries who live in fear and pain. It kills me because there are people in the world who don't care enough and neglect these beautiful souls. They are so innocent and though it's a different society and you personally may not know what's even going on, I believe it's important to give to someone when they are in need of help. These children could one day figure out the cure to cancer or be the first person to explore further than our solar system. They could even be just normal citizens who's highest achievement will be a personal win. Imagine being scared, cold, and starving and forced to commit sinful crimes or else be killed. Nobody should have to live like that, especially innocent children with millions of possibilities ahead of them.

My Top Three Movies

1. The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Rocky Horror Picture Show was hilarious as much as it was crude. It was sexy, enticing, and even a little confusing. I fell in love with the wicked Frankfurter and the ludicrous events that transpired in his lab. Though musicals can be very annoying at times there was an exception made for RHPS.

2. Girl, Interrupted

Based on Susanna Kaysen's time in a mental institute, Girl, Interrupted reminds me I'm not crazy, but society's view on women is. This movie is empowering by demonstrating the female mind and how our views of ourself are so destroyed from the oppression we face in our day to day lives. This movie also displays the human fear of being mentally ill. Susanna denied her illness for months even though she was in a hospital, out of fear that if she admitted to trying to kill herself she would be like the other girls in the hospital who had been there for years with no sign of reform.

3. The Great Gatsby
Leonardo DiCaprio is amazing as Jay Gatsby, and the beautiful Carey Mulligan (Daisy Buchanan) was the jewel of the film. The vivid details in the set and the gorgeous costumes made it feel like I was back in the 1920's. The actors/actresses did a phenomenal job of displaying the greed of capitalism and the inevitable heartbreak of a love affair.

My Favorite Hobby

Photography enables a person to capture a simple moment forever. Whether its a shoot for fashion, or just to capture a beautiful moment, a photo speaks more words than a person ever could. I love to photograph stills of my younger sister. Physical Beauty may fade but with a photo it could easily remind one of their value.

I always am on instagram randomly scrolling through my feed of fashion brands and love to stalk the magnificent models shot. Like an LA model Cailin Russo is a gorgeous girl and portrays every girls’ wild youth in her poses. I also love the photographer C Lucratif and their extraordinary photos displayed.

The modeling world is extremely harsh for one’s mental state. The idea of what real beauty is, is often debated between tall and skinny to long and curvy. Everyone has a beauty but it is how that beauty is portrayed that can make or break you. everyone is capable of stunning high fashion or trashy editorial. as a photographer you are capturing a person. You capture their life, their insecurities, their simplicity, and their over all appearance. You can save a moment forever in one simple photo.

About Me

My name is MaryJane Egan. Im 15 years old and reside in Newport Beach, California; where it is always sunny. I’ve lived here my entire life and am an alum of Newport Elementary and Ensign Intermediate and attended Newport Harbor High School my freshman year and part of my sophomore year. I have an older sister named madison who is 22 and lives in Porterville, CA. I also have a younger sister named Emily who is 13 and lives with me and my mom. I am very artistic and love to draw, paint, and express my creativity in any way possible.

I would classify myself as very intellectual and aware of the world and human behaviors. My super power is reading people; Their personality, lifestyle and struggles they have most likely faced. I have faced my own struggles though, from being bullied for most of my life to feeling insecure about myself.  I am from the lower middle classed and work hard for the little I’ve achieved. After i graduate high school, I would like to pursue an artistic career as either a fashion designer, or just owning an art gallery and passing on my vision and being able to learn other perople’s ideas. I would like to attend four years of college at eaither FIDM in LA or San Francisco. Or attend SFSU and major in art and minor in business to learn how to better my art work and handle finances for the business world. A top fashion designer I idolize is Christian Dior and the fabulous couture he designed over his lifetime.
